The ArchiFlix Melbourne Film Festival will feature a huge program of lively Q&A’s with filmmakers and discussion panels.
Thursday – Dream of Perfection / Autopsy On A Dream
Writer and Director John Weiley will join ArchiFlix Creative Director Ron Brown on stage for a revealing discussion on the destruction and eventual recreation of this amazing “lost” film that examined the role and ultimate loss of architect Jorn Utzon from the Sydney Opera House project. The film won the Jury Prize at the Sydney ArchiFlix Festival in May 2017.
Friday – Harry Seidler, Modernist
Writer and Director Daryl Dellora will join ArchiFlix Creative Director Ron Brown on stage to talk about the making of this highly popular examination of the life and work of iconic Australian modernist architect Harry Seidler, a disciple of Bauhaus founder Walter Gropius.
Saturday – Getting Frank Gehry
Writer and Director Sally Aitken will join ArchiFlix Creative Director Ron Brown on stage to talk about the making of the documentary that follows Pritzker Prize-winning American architect Frank Gehry from concept to completion of his only Australian commission, the UTS Dr Chau Chak Wing Building in Sydney.
Saturday – Glenn Murcutt, Spirit of Place
(Writer and Director) Catherine Hunter AND Hakan Elevli (joing architect with Glenn) will join ArchiFlix Creative Director Ron Brown on stage to discuss the close relationship she developed with Australia’s only Pritzker Prize-winning architect, Glenn Murcutt. Filmed during the design and construction of one of Murcutt’s few major public buildings, the Newport Mosque in Melbourne, the film won the People’s Choice Award at the Sydney ArchiFlix Festival in May 2017.
Saturday – John Gollings, Eye For Architecture
Highly regarded Australian architectural photographer John Gollings is the subject of this fascinating portrait by filmmaker Sally Ingleton. John Gollings will join ArchiFlix Creative Director Ron Brown on stage to reflect on his career and to discuss the challenges of his profession.
Sunday – Edge of the Possible
Writer and Director Daryl Dellora will join ArchiFlix Creative Director Ron Brown on stage to talk about the making of this fascinating discussion-based documentary filmed with Sydney Opera House designer Jorn Utzon at his home in Denmark after his untimely departure from Australia. The only time Utzon spoke candidly about the project, and Dellora recalls it all vividly!
Sunday – Zaha Hadid, Who Dares Wins
A strong representative panel, together with audience input, will dissect the topic of woman in architecture. Come along and join in a great session, immediately following the screening of this inspirational film.
The Melbourne ArchiFlix A&D Festival will feature a Jury Prize and a People’s Choice Award for the best films at this year’s event. The prizes will be awarded during this session, the last of the Festival.
Jury members include Prof Leon van Schaik (RMIT), Prof Hannah Lewi (UniMelb), architectural photographer Dianna Snape, ArchitectureAu Editor-In-Chief Cameron Bruhn and ArchiFlix Creative Director Ron Brown.
